OUR STORY SO FAR.....
The Isle of Man Underwater Search Team is a Isle of Man registered charity. Our charity number is 2000.
The Isle of Man used to be served by underwater search teams drawn from the Fire Service, but these were disbanded. Since then, there has been no underwater search capacity. Local recreational divers have long been aware that there was no formal mechanism to co-ordinate and manage search activities, although in the event of a search being required, many well qualified divers would have volunteered to assist.
Following discussions in early 2016, divers from a number of different dive clubs, and from the commercial world of diving came together to form the Isle of Man Underwater Search and Recovery Team. In early 2017, the Manx Search & Recovery Team became a branch of the British Sub Aqua Club, with many members holding dual membership between the Search team and their own dive club.
The activities of the Search Team are deployed at the request of Civil Defence or the Isle of Man Constabulary Search Co-ordinators. We are able to work in lakes, rivers, quarries and ponds, as well as sites around the coast in Manx Territorial waters. Using a combination of diving equipment, we can work to depths of up to 80m. Our members have years of experience of the tides, currents and dive conditions around the Isle of Man, combined with access to boats, sonar equipment and plotters to direct and manage search activities.
